Our friends Stan & Haney at WRXK, Florida, asked for some comments from
Howard Cossell.
Howard rested for over a year but then the demand was so great that he started
a half hour weekly broadcast in The Spirit Realm called "Howard Cossell;
Still Doing Sports," on which he talks with leading sports personalities of
the past on what is happening with sports in the material world. The demand
is so great that the show may soon go daily!
Howard, however, is disturbed by one thing in The Spirit World and wanted
to give his comments on it. These are them.
"In all my years of sports broadcasting I knew there was underlying resentment
between professional athletes and the owners of major teams. I never suspected
how bitter these feelings were until I got to this side of life and found,
to my horror, that players and owners do not associate here. Each group
has their own organizations, their own meetings. Owners are not even invited
to exhibitions given by the members of the teams they once owned.
There is so much unity, understanding and forgiveness here. I do not
understand why reasoning, mostly good-hearted men, continue to hold such
bitterness towards each other. The players continue to feel that they were
treated little better than slaves- highly paid slaves, but slaves, nonetheless!
The owners continue to feel that they were simply good businessmen running
a business the best way it could be run. Neither group will give an
inch. I think this is one of the saddest situations I have ever encountered,
and I do not believe it can be resolved until the problem with their sport
are solved in the material world, as you call it.
I thank you for this opportunity to express my feelings, that there are still
those among you that are interested in what I am doing and what I have to
say."
We thank Mr. Cossell, also, for his comments, sad as they are.
