Since we put out the last special edition we have had some minor setbacks
and some strange occurrences. First, Linda had an infected cyst on
her breast that required two visits to the clinic costing us $95.00.
We have no health insurance. Fortunately they gave her some samples
of an antibiotic and we didn't have to get a prescription that would have
cost us hundreds more!
Then, there was a gang fight right in front of our house, which took several
carloads of police to break up. And we live in one of the quieter parts
of town.
Then, our typewriter, a Brother model number GX 8250, which is only four
months old, died, and the repair costs were such that it was cheaper to go
out and buy a new one. That was $113.
We were hoping to get another special edition out in August, but it doesn't
look like that will be possible unless there's a miracle.
We did have a bit of luck. One of our fans in France we believe sold
one of our Ancient One stories to a magazine over there. And we got
a small remittance from that, that helped. But we will need a lot more.
We are so desperate for funds I have even started my art work up again making
cardboard and papier mache pieces. I have completed four so far; "Klansman On Judgment Day," "Beneath The Klansman's Mask," "Night Thoughts," and "Mother With Children." But I'd have to get quite a few more ahead to have a show anywhere.
Our apartment is a mess! There's just not enough space in three rooms
for it to be living quarters, office, temple, and art studio, all rolled
into one. But we are getting by.
We will keep VOICES coming, but unless we have some other success with alternate
income, we will not be able to do as much as we wanted. But we will
go on.
