IMAGINATION'S PLACE
FICTION
MIRACLES
By; Speaker Gerald A. Polley
As Air Force One winged east The President sat reading a
folder that had been placed before him and looking very irritated at the
man across from him.
"Agent Green," he asked, "can you please tell me why it was necessary
to make me aware of this now? I wanted so much to enjoy our success
in Europe. Now you tell me you have discovered our alien inhabitants
have been producing children in their altered forms? My experts tell
me that this is completely impossible! That psy....kenetic forces
can do incredible things, but their DNA cannot maintain its integrity long
enough for them to reproduce children with living partners."
"No offense, Mr. President," Agent Green answered, "but the so-called
experts are nit wits! And it's psychokinetic energy, sir. This
has surprised me as much as it has anyone else. Apparently they started
experimenting with volunteers about fifteen years ago."
"You mean......" The President answered, "they gave some women they caught
in criminal activities the choice of attempting to mate with them or dying?"
"Something along those lines, Mr. President!" the Agent answered.
"But not quite that crude. Their law would not permit them to do such
things. They would have to offer some type of reward in exchange.
We believe they are preparing these children as a second wave to continue
Their Work, should Their current efforts fail, and as reinforcements if
their current effort begins to blossom. Why I have made this information
available to you now, is that They are not operating in The United States,
alone. Increasingly They are operating in Europe. Their emphasis
seems to have shifted slightly. Some of the Work may begin in Europe,
rather than The United States. They may be able to establish more
control there. We believe They were partially responsible for the
success of the Liberal Party in the British elections. They're doing
different things, sir. They're beginning to take more chances.
They feel They're in trouble and They might not have that much more time
to succeed. Some dangerous things are happening."
"And as usual, Agent Green," The President put in, "you believe we should
stop our efforts to hinder their operations, and begin to assist Them."
"I do, Mr. President," the Agent answered. "This new information
shows that They are expending energy for totally new purposes. They
are taking more and more desperate acts. If they fail, we ALL fail."
The President looked at the file. "How many?" he asked.
"Perhaps as few as one-hundred," the Agent answered, "perhaps as many
as one-houndred-thousand! We have no way of knowing. We have
only located five, all raised by welfare mothers at government expense."
The President grimaced. "Sounds like, in a way, we've been helping
them all ready!" he remarked. "What would you suggest we do, Mr. Green?"
"They want action taken against the Bosnian Serbs, sir. They want
them punished for the atrocities they committed.
Give them a sign of good faith, that we WILL cooperate in some ways.
Go after some of the worst of them. Let somebody else's troops
do it if necessary, but bring some of them to justice!"
"I still think amnesty would have been the answer," The President moaned.
"Vengeance accomplishes nothing. But all right. Let the allies
know we'll accept some limited capture operations. If they go well
we may allow some more. Keep me advised of this.
My God! One-hundred-thousand Marys? I can't imagine it!"
Within minutes of the President's approval troops were underway.
Justice was in the works.
Nathaniel Green was a man who felt a little pleasure...something he had
not known for a good many years.
