31. Is it true you happened to be a great fighter?
A. I was good. Great, uh, I can't say. I tilted a good score of
men. I got tilted a few times, myself. I survived. I supppose
that's saying something. A good many didn't.
32. Is it true Galahad was the last descendant of Joseph of
Arimathea?
A. Yes. Or so they tell me here. Sometimes when people make these
claims they do have justification.
33. What do you think of everyone looking for you and Camelot?
A. I enjoy it emensely! It's nice to know one's remembered. I
just wish everyone would stop thinking of me as a legend. They
should know there's a little truth behind all legends. I wasn't
as grand as they say, but I existed.
34. Was it really the remains of yourself and your wife they
found in the Abbey?
A. Yes. I know it's where I desired to be laid to rest, and it
was where Guinevere went after all the trouble and I wanted to be
with her. It was not my original burying place, but Iwas moved
there some years after my death.
35. Did the round table really end as in the stories?
A. Yes. If you mean the association of knights that we had, yes.
After Mordred stirred up that damned mess, we all started
quarreling with each other.
36. Did Sir Gawaine really kill Sir Lionel as revenge upon
Lancelot's slaying of his brothers?
A. No. They were both on my side afterwards but things got
twisted around somehow.
37. Who was left of your knights after the battle for the Queen's
life?
A. Actually thre was no battle. I'm afraid the whole story of
Guinevere at the stake and Lancelot coming to the rescue is all
pippycock. Actually Lancelot snuck her out through the secret
tunnel.
38. How did you die?
A. Mordred gathered some knights while I was occupied elsewhere
and started taking over the northern part of my kingdom. He was
attacking one of my fortresses when I surprised him. We caught
him on a peninsular and he couldn't run away. In the insuing
battle I ran him through. Unfortunately he did a rather nasty job
on my right shoulder. Almost took my arm off! A few hours later I
died of loss of blood.
39. How did the Queen die?
A. She would not eat well, and after I was gone, took a fever.
She told me it was not unpleasant, she was merely tired a lot,
and then, just went to sleep. That is all.
40. Were there ever any dragons?
A. Not of the storybook kind. But I do remember us coming upon a
strange creature one time that was terrorizing the countryside.
It was a bull of some kind. It was the weirdest looking thing you
ever saw. It had curly horns and tusks. I killed it with a lance.
It just was some mistake of nature, but everyone made a big thing
about it.
41. Are you ever going to come back and be King as the legends
say?
A. Oh, yes, I fullly intend to come back in a few years. We've
been waiting a long time. I won't exactly be king, but you can
bet in time we'll fare better
.
42. Do you have any messages for our readers?
A. I can't really say much of anything. Except, be fair to one
another and don't let your emotions carry you away. Even the
greatest cause can be ruined by plunging in without thinking.
THE END
