#16. The final race of the old Ashtarian subjects applying for membership to The Galactic Community are;

NAME- Pickanar (Sorrowers)

HOME WORLD- None.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION- The Pickanar are four feet tall insects, who have developed legs that enable them to stand upright, and arms, and, hands. On their outer shells, however, are the two bumps where their other legs once were. They also developed much more complex internal organs than common insects. The females have even developed breast-like organs with which they nurse their young.
The Pickanar once lived on an Earth-like world, but by the time The Ashtarians found them it was dying of chemical and nuclear pollution from the melt down of three of their nuclear power facilities that caused a series of biological chain reactions that destroyed all life on their world. The survivors were living in a few scattered sealed cities barely clinging to existence. The Ashtarians transported them all to a world called Tubas where they were put to work mining the element that The Ashtarians used for faster than light drive. And they had been enslaved there for about 300 years, when The Ashtarian blockade began and the Rebellion arose, resulting in their virtual destruction.
Now, The Ashtarians are working on a breeding program to restore their numbers and preparing a colony for them to inhabit.
There are currently only about 3,000 of them left but it should not take long for them to reestablish a viable population. Some plants and animals saved from their original world will help them establish a viable biosphere that in time, will sustain their new numbers.

POLITICAL SYSTEM- Parlimentary democracy except with only a single house. Ancient hereditary rulers often elected to governmental posts but ordinary citizens are too, often elected.

RELIGION- Belief in a Great Mother that gave birth to the universe and from who all life is descended called The Forever She. She is greatly revered and holds both aspects as rewarder of good and punisher of evil.
