Here's one of those things that is really hard to answer because nobody's got a definite answer!  What makes a psychokinetic portal?  What makes a life energy generated in the material world gather to certain points and flow into The Afterlife to sustain it?  Nobody knows for sure.  Every theory that is put forth is found not to be constant.  Some psychokinetic flows follow the lay of the land, going from high points to low points to a gathering place, but others flow in the reverse direction; go uphill to gather at the top of some high place and enter into The Afterlife.  There seems to be no set rules how portals function.  They simply function!  What is known for sure, is that people are drawn to them, cities are built in the strongest gathering places, and temples erected on the points where the energy enters The Afterlife....Jerusalem, Rome, New Delhi, are all built on major psychokinetic portals.  People gathering at them seems to fortify them and make them function better.  It is very rare that an extremely good portal is found in an empty wilderness.  People seem to be needed to channel the energy into The Afterlife.  Portals are a great mystery but everybody is extremely grateful they're there!  Without them life could not exist.
