Earn the Right
By Lawrence D. Reynolds

Oh King of Heaven and Lord of Light
May I rejoin my kinsmen. Have I earned the right?
He said; "How would you serve us here in the Sun?"
As I have below My Lord.
He said; "What have you done?"

I put to memory each word I would say
Of my preparation for this coming day.
My plan was meticulous. Logically sound.
Here's my summary of my life on the ground.

I've tried to stay honest. Consistently true.
For fear that I might misrepresent you.
I try to receive much less than I give
In order that I earn my right to live.
Never to benefit at others despair.
Never complain from a comfortable chair
Never stray too far from your spiritual light
Never back down when you call me to fight

Oh King of Heaven and Lord of Light
May I rejoin my kinsmen. Have I earned the right?
He said; "How would you serve us here in the Sun?"
As I have below My Lord.
He said; "What have you done?"

Try to take pride in my daily routine.
Knowing everything's marked. Everything's seen.
Always worked hard in my adult years.
Set an example for my family and peers.
When I have done something for which I'm ashamed,
I never let circumstance take all the blame.
Always to contemplate, "Could I be wrong?"
Not for the crowd though. I don't play along.
The popular view seldom warrants respect.
Founded by evil influence, one can suspect.
I close my ear to the short-term delight.
Look to the end of it. Look to the right.

Oh King of Heaven and Lord of Light
May I rejoin my kinsmen. Have I earned the right?
He said; "How would you serve us here in the Sun?"
As I have below My Lord.
He said; "What have you done?"

Try to contribute as best as I could.
Members of Productive Societies should.
Counting accomplishments, honing the skills,
Embracing failures, and tending the ills.
Facing my faults, neither timid nor shy.
Facing my enemies although I may die.
Trouble my fears like a Knight, not a Pawn.
Leave this memento of me when I'm gone.
Burn like a candle here in the dark.
Never alone though living apart.
Proud of my life and still seeking growth.
Stand by the Faith.
Die by the Oath.

Oh King of Heaven and Lord of Light
May I rejoin my kinsmen. Have I earned the right?
He said; "How would you serve us here in the Sun?"
As I have below My Lord.
He says; "Enter My Son?"
