Chapter One

Now, The Light Of The North studied all of his descendants and found one that was great with The Power, but he did not have long to live, and The Light Of The North wondered if it would be good for the child to be without a father, but then decided that it would not matter. The man had two wives that were also The Light Of The North's descendants; a younger one, Amina, and, an older one, Sarah. And The Lord Of The North chose Sarah, for she was the steadiest and the strongest of the two.  And he went out into the field where his descendant was working in the clay, and put it into his mind that he longed greatly, to be upon his wife, Sarah.
And The Lord Of The North put The Power in him, so that his wife would conceive, and he sent one of his companions, a Daughter Of Heaven, to Sarah, and put The Power in her, also, that she would conceive.
Now, when Sarah saw her husband approaching, she saw The Power within him, and, the shadow of him that accompanied him, and she was greatly troubled.
And when her husband came in and told her to disrobe, that he would have her, she forbid him, saying "You are covered with clay and dirt, and defiled.  I will not have you like this!  Go and be washed and have sweet smelling water put upon you so you will not smell as a beast of the field, and then I will joyously have you."
Now, Abdulla saw no harm in this, and hurried off to be washed, and Sarah went quickly and found Amina, and told her "Quickly!  Put on your most revealing robe and nothing else, and wait inside the tent for our husband.  For he wishes to be upon you."
Immediately Amina obeyed, and when Abdulla returned, washed, she greeted him, and took him to her bed.  And their passion was like none they had ever enjoyed before.  And when they were done, Abdulla went out and found Sarah, and said, "Why is it you disobeyed me?  Why did you have Amina waiting for me when I returned?  Did you not want me?  Have I displeased you?"
And Sarah answered, saying "No, in no way!  You are a most excellent husband!  But as you came to me I saw a great Power within you, and the shadow of One Unseen walked beside you. And I knew that if you were to get upon me I would conceive, and that child would be a glory, would have great powers, and do wondrous things.  And I did not want the burden of having such a child.  So I called my sister wife, who is younger and stronger, so that she might have this honor."
Now, when her husband heard these things, he was not angry.  He thought his wife had been too much in the sun, and was weary, so he forgave her, paying no attention to her words.
The Light Of The North was disappointed.  "We shall have to try again," he told his female companion.  But she opened her wings, and, shook her head.
"No, My Lord," she answered, "Father Of Nations, when I saw that the older was replacing herself with the younger, I withdrew The Power I had put in her, and put it in the younger.  The younger has conceived. The child is male and his Power is considerable.  Already a great Soul is being drawn to him from among your children, one of their own kind, who has led them well many times, and will now be your Glory.  Did I do wrong, My Lord?"
The Light Of The North smiled, shaking his head.  "No, your decision was wise.  You have done good for all.  Let us depart.  We have done our Deed, now we can let them have what little time together they have.  We will not need to watch over the child until it is born."
So it was They departed, and the little family was happy, until just before the child was born, his father was out in the fields and a great fire came in his chest.  He gave a cry, fell down, and did not rise.  And those that loved him wept, for he had been a good man, worth praising.
