Chapter Seventeen

But Muhammed had played an old trick on them, and polished his shields, so they were like mirrors, and reflected the light of the sun back into their eyes, making their attack confused and disoriented.  Still the Meccans came at Muhammed with a fury! But the place he had chosen was to his advantage, and after several minutes of fierce fighting the Meccans withdrew and regrouped.
Muhammed's bowmen and stone throwers had done a good job with their first charge, and they tried to find a way to avoid their fury, but then gave up on it, and simply charged again.  But again they were driven back, but this time they dragged ten captives back with them.  And before they attacked again, they dragged them out before their assembled troops, beheaded them, then rode over their bodies, to charge again!
This only made Muhammed and his people fiercer than ever, and they drove them back a third time.  Muhammed's Chief Captain joined him.  "Master!" he cried, "The situation is grave.  We have many wounded and their numbers are still greater than ours.  We will not be able to stand much longer."
"We will be able to stand," Muhammed answered, "as long as it is necessary for us to stand.  For God is with us!  Put the wounded in the rear ranks.  Let them do what they can.  We do not withdraw, neither do we surrender!"
The Chief Captain cried "Yes, master!"and gave the word.
For the fourth time the Meccans charged, and they were in the midst of the battle when new cries were heard.  "To The Prophet!  To The Voice Of God!  To The Prophet!  Defend Muhammed!  In the name of Israel, Our Father, forward!  Forward!  Defend The Prophet!"
Abraham and The Judeans had arrived.  They fought their way fiercly through the Meccans, reached Muhammed, and turned to defend him.
Not liking these new numbers that made the odds two to one, the Meccans began to withdraw.  But Muhammed cried, "Do not let them disengage!  Pursue!  Keep your swords upon them!  Do not let them flee!"
And as weary as his men were, they instantly obeyed, and the battle went down into the open ground, where everyone was mixed together.
Muhammed, who had wounded many, now fell three, but a group of lancemen saw him, and spurred their horses.  Six were cut off by Muhammed's men and The Israelis, and engaged, but the seventh bore down on Muhammed, and Muhammed fighting fiercely, did not see him.
Suddenly Daniel rode thorugh the melee, positioning himself between Muhammed, and, the lanceman, taking the lance in his own body, and deflecting it so it only nicked Muhammed's side.  He was pushed up against Muhammed, and his blood poured onto Muhammed's robes.  With his final strength the boy swung his sword at the lanceman, catching him in the throat, and both fell to the ground, dying.
Muhammed, seeing the boy fall, gave a great cry that is said shook the Earth, for it began to rise and fall beneath the combatants.  With a great fury Muhammed charged into the Meccans, and his sword was like a thunderbolt.  Four fell and scores were wounded, before the terrified Meccans finally cried "The demon is upon us!  he cannot be killed!  Flee! Flee!"  And those who still had strength turned their backs and fled.
Abraham's men, being the freshest, followed until the fleeing Meccans were well beyond their own camp, then sat sentries to watch, and returned.  But for that day the Meccans were through.
Muhammed rode back to the fallen boy, tears running down his great cheeks. He wobbled in the saddle, and his men rushed forward and took him down, threw down their cloaks to make a pile, and laid him down on them.
King Abraham arrived, and Muhammed bid him kneel.  The Israelite did so, and Muhammed took his hand.
"Let all hear," Muhammed cried, "I swear an oath this day, by the blood on my robes, that flows with mine.  I am forever the protector of Israel. Jerusalem forever belongs to the Judaens, Israel forever belongs to The Children Of Israel!  And if any man tries to take from them what God has given them, what God has promised them, my Power, my might will be against them!  And I shall slay them unto death!
Wherever there is a child of Israel, outside of Israel, they are under my protection, and if any man should harm them, they will pay ten for one!  This is an oath given in The Name Of Allah, The One True God.  And if any man breaks it, all men are doomed that called him brother!  So say I, Muhammed, The Prophet Of God!"
And with this Muhammed grew weary, and laid back.  They carried him to his tent and stitched his wounds, and prayed for him.
But many with Muhammed were angry that he had made this oath, for they were jealous that he was so fond of The Israelites, and they began to make little of their effort in the battle.  And in time, forgot to mention that they were there at all.  And they made no mention of Muhammed's Oath.  Only a few knew of it, and kept it.
