THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!
By; Gerald A. Polley
Being a peacekeeper in Afghanistan was not Captain Daniel Morgan's idea
of a great military career. He would much rather be involved in the
upcoming campaign in Iraq, where you knew for sure who your enemy was.
Being a peacekeeper you didn't know what was going to happen from one moment
to the next! The Captain's attentions were brought back to the present
by a sudden warning from one of his men. His vehicle swerved and
there was a loud explosion just behind it. His vehicle came to a
stop and everybody bailed out, finding what cover they could. Machine
gun bullets began to ding off the vehicle's side. The Captain reached
for his radio.
"Bravo!" he called ,"Bravo! We're under attack again on the north
road. Need immediate assistance!"
Machine gun bullets began to rip up the ground around the Captain.
They suddenly stopped and he wondered why. He looked up to see a
man standing before him holding a round shield which the incoming bullets
were bouncing off. The shield was red, white, and blue with a white
star in the middle. The man wore a blue uniform with a white star
on his chest, and a helmet with a big A on it. The Captain could
not believe that the shield he was holding was deflecting the bullets!
"I'd really get over there," the man commented, "before they
think of changing position and getting a new line of fire." Captain
Morgan quickly obeyed.
Suddenly there was the whoosh of an incoming rocket. A young
woman swooped down out of the sky wearing a petite little blue dress with
the Star Of David on the chest, flesh colored nylons, and, red boots.
She grabbed the incoming rocket, spun it around, and hurled it back in
the direction where it came. "Weee!" she cried.
There were flashes of light in the distance and Arab voices screaming
"Allah be merciful!" then all was quiet.
The young woman landed by the man with the shield. A few moments
later another man joined her. He wore a blue shirt with The Star
Of David on it, blue tights, red boots, and a red cape fluttered in the
wind behind him. "Come on!" he told the young woman.
"Grab the Captain! We gotta get going. Much more to do tonight."
"Let's stay in this form!" the woman giggled. "It really messes
these guys up more than my other one!"
"Whatever!" the other man said. "Let's go!" He leapt
into the sky and disappeared, the young woman grabbed the man with the
shield, picked him up, and soared away.
Captain Morgan rose, brushing the dust off his clothes. His Lieutenant
walked up and Morgan raised his hand. "That did not happen!"
Morgan remarked. "None of that happened! We came under fire,
fired a few rounds back, and the enemy withdrew.. None of that happened!
If anybody says it did I'll court martial them! It never happened!"
"Yes, sir!" the Lieutenant snapped. "But my God, she was
cute!"
"Yeah!" Morgan agreed, "She sure as hell was! The comic
books don't do her justice. But I thought she was supposed to be
blonde, not silver haired. Oh well, they can't get everything right!
Let's get these vehicles back on the road and get out of here!"
His men quickly obeyed. Officially nothing had happened, but
it wasn't long before the story was spread about. Everyone looked
at the people telling it and shook their heads, and hoped nothing like
that would happen to them.
But then again, some hoped it would, they hoped A LOT it would!
