"If you don't believe me," I told her, "go ask him!"
"I will!" the waitress snapped, "And I'll tell him what you're saying about him!"
She rushed off to the office. A few moments later she emerged, tears running down her face melting her make up. I will never forget the look on her face as long as I live, when she walked up to me and wept, "My God! He said it was TRUE! He said it was TRUE!"
She ran off to the restrooom to fix her face.
Samuel worked a couple of more weeks then disappeared. The manager said he had decided to find some other place to work where the people weren't so cruel and despisable and he made it quite clear that he would prefer I found work elsewhere, too, as he couldn't have someone with attitudes like mine working for him.
I was already working part time elsewhere, anyway, so it only took me a couple of weeks to get on full time there. As I picked up my last check the manager remarked, "You know, Gerald, I think it's a real shame there has to be people like you in the world!"
"Do you know how much I care what you think?" I answered taking the check and walking out the door.
The manager followed me outside but said no more as I drove off.

THE END
