portals and to seek those he believes will help us. This
bickering will end, now! Anyone making such accusations again,
ANYWHERE, will be charged with endangering the safety of our
people. You may depart, Professor!"
Red Spot bowed, unhooked himself, and made his way out of the
Chamber. He quickly made his way to the university. His young
assistants were waiting. He had barely arrived when the shipment
of lathium rolled in.
"Get into the shields!" the Professor ordered.
"Refuel the reactor! Let's get it up to power. Be careful.
The used material is just as deadly as the fresh. Make sure
everything goes into the sealed containers. Use every
precaution."
As his assistants worked he began to adjust controls on the
portal. It had taken them some time to attach controls they could
manipulate, but they had succeeded. In a couple of hours the
reactor was putting out full power.
"We're ready!" he muttered. "Activate the scout!
It's been programmed to contact those we want. Use the little
portal. When they return we will activate the big one."
His assistants quickly obeyed. In another world totally different
from theirs what looked like a common flying insect buzzed
quickly over the landscape covering incredible distance. It came
to a modest home where a man was sitting on a porch working a
computer. It tried to find some way in but the porch was sealed.
Finally it emitted an audio signal.
"Ancient One! Kindly open the door. I have a message for
you!" The man on the computer stopped, looked towards the
door, got up and opened it. The little insect flew in.
"Thank you!" it acknowledged.
"Quite welcome!" the man answered. "Now would you
mind telling me what you're doing here?"
"Certainly!" the insect answered,
"Certainly!"
