The Ancient One nodded. "You understand all right," he answered. "And as I have said, I will not interfere. But you better hurry up. There's someone searching, probably looking for you."
Kali and the young woman nodded, knealt down, and began to mutter prayers. Towards the end of the prayers the young woman slipped off the nightgown and knealt naked. Light began to shine around her, an eerie, troubling light. It began to shine around the old woman too, and then it flowed from her to the girl, and the old woman slumped over. The young woman knealt down and carressed her face. Then a booming voice screamed "What in the hell are you doing? I told you to stay away from that old woman! Get back to the house! There's a customer looking for you!"
The big man came up, and the young woman rose, looking at him. "From now on," she remarked, "I'll only serve the customers I want to serve, none others! I'm not taking your orders any more, ever!"
She suddenly thrust her arm into the man's stomach, protruding from his clothes. As the man stood in horror she proceeded to haul out his intestines then, grabbing one end she ripped them apart, then grabbed the other end and ripped them apart, then hurled them off into the brush. She then ripped the man's pocket open and took his wallet, and ripped the key ring off his belt.
"Go somewhere and die!" the girl remarked, "Or I'll hurt you more, I'll make you beg for death!"
The man looked horrified and staggered off into the cemetary. The girl looked at The Ancient One.
"Any complaints?" she asked.
"Well considering the number of young girls' spirits that are following him," The Ancient One remarked, "waiting for him to leave his body, I think you were justified."
"Nasty!" Durga muttered.
The girl smiled at her, picked up the nightgown and wiped off her arm. Not bothering to put it back on she walked down the street and entered a house. There was a large parlor and young women sat around in it with virtually nothing on. An older woman was holding a struggling girl before a man.
"Here you are!" she was saying. "This one isn't broken in much!"
"No!" the girl was saying "Please! I don't want to do that! Please!"
The woman looked at her. "Stop that! You've been told not to complain. You'll be punished if you do. Do what the man wants!"
"Let go of her!" the young woman snapped. Everyone turned to look at her. The woman let go of the girl. "Come here, dear!" the young woman snapped. The girl came over. The young woman pointed to two other very young girls and motioned them over. "The three of you go get your things!" she snapped. "Move into the extra room in the upstairs apartment. You won't have to do this any more. I won't send you back to your parents, they'll only sell you again. But tomorrow we'll arrange for you to go to school and later I'll get you some nice husbands."
She pointed to another girl and the man. "Take her. She'll give you everything you want. You'll enjoy her. Go on!" The man took the girl's hand and led her down the hall. The young woman turned to the older one. "I'm in charge now!" she snapped, holding up the keys. "I not only have these, but I have the codes to the bank accounts. So if you want your money you'd better cooperate with me. You're useful. You run things well. There'll only be a few changes. None of the girls working here will ever be stolen again. Every girl will come of her own free will. There'll be no more abuse. The men can have their fun but they don't need to hurt them. And they will get 3/4ths of what they make. There'll be plenty left over for us. Am I understood?"
The woman stared for a moment then snapped "Yes, ma'am! I fully understand, ma'am. Things will be done according to your wishes."
Two burly men came down the hall. "Everything all right?" one of them asked.
"Yes," the older woman answered. "This one is now in charge. Obey her in all things."
"Get out to the cemetary," the young woman snapped. "You'll find the previous owner's body in it somewhere. Cremate it immediately, then get rid of what's left. There's also an old woman's body. It is to be prepared for a full funeral. Go take care of it."
"Yes, madame!" the two men snapped and hurried off.
The Ancient One tapped Durga's shoulder. "Let's go!" he remarked. "Seen enough! She's taken charge. She'll take good care of the other family that she's been with for so long."
Durga shook her head. "Sometimes she doesn't really seem all that bad," she remarked.
"Sometimes, when it suits her," The Ancient One answered, "she can be kind. She'll use the girls for rewards to those that serve her, but they'll be well treated. The nasty ones, that's another story! She doesn't much care what happens to them."
Durga nodded, spun her shield and sailed skyward. The Ancient One spread his wings and followed.
"No hunting?" Durga asked.
"Just too dangerous," The Ancient One answered, "until we solve my control problem. It's just too dangerous!"
Durga nodded and they headed for home.
