IMAGINATION'S PLACE

FINDING HER A PLACE
By; Gerald A. Polley

The young female demon approached the house very cautiously. She knew a very powerful Light Bearer lived there that sometimes was helpful to her kind, but other times could be very nasty if he chose to be. But she was tired. She wanted a place where she could rest a little while, where the other creatures of Darkness would leave her alone. She was surprised to find that there was no psychic barrier around the place. Then she pondered "Why bother when you can fry a creature of Darkness with a single thought, why try to keep them away? It's said this one's greatest pleasure was to hunt and desroy. If he could get his prey to come to him, all the better."
She wondered which part of the dwelling was The Lords Of Light. She finally found it was one of the lower ones. She entered and felt her way around, located the bedroom, and then settled down. Some time later the Lord of Light and his companion came in. It was obvoius he was getting ready to sleep. After the woman left and the lights went out the girl crept closer to the bed. "I know you're there," The Lord Of Light remarked. "Don't try to conceal yourself. What do you want?"
The girl laid down on the bed. "All right," The Lord Of Light commented, "but when my wife comes to bed, move. And don't get any other ideas. I'm not in a very good mood."
The girl snuggled up. When the woman came to bed she went under it and stayed there. This went on for a couple of nights. Then The Lord Of Light came out of his body one evening, took her hand and said "Come on! It's simply too dangerous for you to stay here. I'm too volitile. I'm being attacked quite regularly and you might get caught in the crossfire. You don't seem to be all that bad."
They went out in the surrounding area until The Lord Of Light found a group of demons who had a feeding station in a house with a retarded girl. When he approached all but one of the demons fled. The other, an ugly male approached. "What do you want?" he asked. "We're not bothering anybody, we're keeping the rules. The girl lets us use her body willingly. You've got no reason to bother us."
The Lord Of Light motioned the girl over. "She's hanging around me," he remarked. "It's too dangerous. There might be a chance I can help her, later. She's not too far along. I might be able to give her a new body and get her into The Afterlife. Do me a favor and take care of her and not ask anything for it, and I'll let you continue here. And when this one passes find you another place."
"Aw, come on!" the male demon sighed, "You can't expect me to let that hang around and not play with it once and a while! I am male, after all!"
"I'd rather starve to death!" the girl moaned. "But is there really a chance you might find me a body? I wouldn't...I wouldn't have to give myself over?"
"There's a chance of it," The Lord Of Light answered. "If we can get together some of the things that we're working on there's a fairly good chance of it. We're able to do alot of things lately that we've never been able to do before. We've been able to do a lot of restoration work."
The girl sighed. "If you're not mean about it," she managed, "once and a while."
The male demon smiled. "Deal!" he snapped. "You really think," he asked The Lord Of Light, "we're going to lose this one soon? She seems pretty stable, happy enough as long as she can wander around at night."
"The flesh is simply going to give out," The Lord Of Light answered. "It's not very stable. She has only lasted as long as she has because you've been energizing the body to feed. Otherwise than that, it would've given out some time ago, a few more months at the most."
The male sighed. "Where she's female," he remarked, "I don't actually feed on her much. But my girls have been rather comfortable with her. However no good thing lasts forever! Will you get out of here? Your mere presence is making me sick!" The Lord Of Light smiled. "It's mutual!" he remarked.
"Oh! By the way!" the demon continued, "Thanks for getting rid of Harry. He was getting too old and hogging the food."
"My pleasure!" The Lord Of Light answered. "Be good!" he told the girl. "When I get things arranged I'll come back for you."
"Promise?" the girl asked. "Promise!" The Lord Of Light answered. He spread his wings and soared away.
"Oh," the girl sighed, "that would be a glorious way to die!"
The male demon roared with laughter. "As soon as the one using her is done feeding," he remarked, "get your fill and then we'll go somewhere and get acquainted."
The girl grimaced and the male laughed. As she went into the house he looked to where The Lord Of Light had disappeared. "Could he really be a million years old?" the demon muttered. "Has he been destroying our kind for that long?" He sighed again then waited for his little friend. It was going to be hard being nice. He'd want to play rough, but to keep her around he'd keep his bargain. The young ones were nice. He had to admit to himself he owed old bat's breath this time, and he'd probably not let him forget it! He'd NEVER let him forget it! A body, a chance to live out a life and build up enough energy so you could die and reenter The Circle Of Life? Had this incredible flow of energy really given them that power? He was tempted, he was VERY tempted to try to make a deal for himself. He was VERY tempted!
