Someday when the first Spiritist Republics are formed their military will go to their ranking system, which some might find rather odd. Instead of insignia like bars and oak leaves and such, the officers would wear a W standing for Warlock on their collars and below that a number.
A W 1 would be the same as a second lieutenant, a W 2 a first lieutenant, a W 3 a captain, a W 4 a major, a W 5 a lieutenant colonel, a W 6 a colonel, a W 7 a brigadier general, a W 8 a major general, a W 9 a lieutenant general, and a W 10 a general, a W 11 a general of the army.
In naval forces an ensign would be a W 1, a lieutenant junior grade would be a W 2, a lieutenant would be a W 3, a lieutenant commander would be a W 4, a commander would be a W 5, a captain would be a W 6, a commodore a W 7, a rear admiral a W 8, a vice admiral a W 9, an admiral a W 10, and a fleet admiral a W 11. And they would be addressed as Warlock Ship's Commander. Any person in the military would immediately know if the person he was greeting outranked him or not by rather or not his number was higher.
It's an easy system but for some reason people in the Earth's military seem to have trouble with it, I cannot understand why. Enllisted people wore a D which stood for Damon, on their collars instead of a W. This is a basic service person. If there was a 1 under the D it would be the same as a private, a 2 would be a private first class, a 3 a corporal, a 4 a sergeant, a 5 a staff sergeant, a six a sergeant first class, a 7 a sergeant major, and an 8 a command sergeant. The sergeant major would be the equivalent of a W 1 and a command sergeant would be the equivalent of a W 2. Any enlisted personnel promoted above the rank of a command sergeant would automatically become a W 3, and any further promotions would be as a Warlock and not a Damon.
In circumstances where there were specialists that were given a special rank to lead their particular specialty a symbol would be put above the D or the W indicating that specialty they were in, such as communications, transport, or something like that outside of combat specialties. A combat officer would outrank any specialty officer in combat situations. It also might be strange to the American military that all service people would wear the same uniform, earth brown in color. On their right shoulder would be a circle either blue, brown, or green. Blue, air forces, brown, combat troops, green naval. Again simplicity. Some people don't like simplicty but The Spiritists do. The simplier you can make something the happier they are, the less complicated the procedure the better they like it!
