EGYPTIAN LOVE POEM
By; Mary Egeria Booth

Egyptian man:
"My beloved is standing there in the flower garden:
Contemplating a white lotus blossom.
She doesn't see me hiding quietly
Behind the tall reeds in the waters nearby.
I am close enough to smell the perfume of her ebony hair--
As the warm, soft winds blow her sweet fragrance near me,
'Kissing' my earlobe as an intimate breathy whisper,
My beloved's sheer pink veils are teased by the playful breeze
And expose her hidden face to me, beauty that is like the dove.
Her eyes glisten in the sun like jeweled emerald-green cats' eyes.
Sparkling and reflecting the cool, green waters I'm waiting in.
I watch her breathlessly, as she undresses and
My heart skipped a beat, as she startled me, calling gently--"

Egyptian woman:
"My beloved, come embrace me, come catch me, naughty one!
You, who are my sun, my warmth, my life, my very breath--
Come and let me drink of you as ripened wine--
So that we may get 'drunk' on our love, in our rapture;
And in the tall, sweet grass, let the perfumes of
our entwined bodies mingle together."

Egyptian man:
"As she runs out of the waters, I folllow her,
chasing swifter than a gazell.
My body burning hotter than the scorching desert sun.
And I lay with her, under the sacred sycamore tree of Hathor;
My beloved dove and I become as one."
