THE SPIRITS SPEAK
This is an interview with the Spirit of Margaret Fox, who with her
sister Katie, brought about the Advent Of Modern Spiritualism with the
investigation of rappings which were heard in their home in Hydesville,
N.Y. in 1848. Her answers are channeled through Speaker Gerald Polley
and Speaker Linda J. Polley provided the questions.
1. Is it true you faked the Spirit
Rappings that made you famous?
A. No. The rappings were quite real.
2. If not, why did you say you did?
A. I was pressured by my husband and his
family who
were determined in their belief to save my soul from the Devil. It was
they who developed the theories on how the rappings were produced, and
tormented me to confess that this was how it had been done.
3. Did you meet Charles B. Rosma the
peddler, whose
bones were in your cellar, after you died, and if so, what did he say
about the communication with you?
A. I most certainly DID meet him, and it
was a joyous
experience! His happiness at being freed from his prison was beyond
words to describe. I prefer to say no more on that matter.
4. Who was your favorite professional
medium?
A. I really had no favorites. To tell you
truthfully
in the end I was a little disappointed with them all. Perhaps this was
from being so disappointed in myself.
5. What is the most memorable thing that
ever happened to you during your popularity?
A. It is very hard to pick one incident.
I think one
I most remember is a woman that came to me and said what I
had
revealed gave her new hope for life when life had lost all meaning. I
don't know why, but in my darkest hours I always remembered that woman.
6. Did you really receive messages from
Ben Franklin and are you good friends today?
A. When my abilities were at their peak,
yes, I did
communicate with Mr. Franklin, and those were some of the better times.
And we most certainly ARE friends today!
7. Was Dr. Elisha Kane your common law
husband?
A. There was no "common law" about it. He
WAS my
husband. Though the marriage might not have been recognized we did
exchange vows before a member of the clergy.
8. Were you or your sister ever under
psychic attack, and what happened to you?
A. From the very day we began, to the
very day we
left this world, those who feared the seed of truth we carried attacked
us night and day, both in the material and the spiritual form.
9. Was your sister Leah a good manager?
A. I do not like to speak ill of one
close to me, let me just say things could have been done better.
10. Were you ever jealous of Katie's
abilities?
A. ls there a difference between envy and jealousy? I believe so. I was
envious but I do not think jealous. I understood the principle that
each have their own talents.
11. What do you feel about communicating
through mediums now?
A. I wish some of them weren't afraid to speak the truth, to admit the
mistakes that we made.
12. Do you have any comments about the
Spiritualist movement today?
A. WHAT Spiritualist movement today? Now it is only Christianity given
another name. Our original movement died long ago.
13. Is it true you had a mental breakdown
after Dr. Kane’s death in 1857, and then became a Catholic?
A. I would describe it more as deep despair rather than a breakdown,
and to escape perse cution I professed a faith but I did not hold its
teachings as truth.
14. Did you and Katie become alcoholics?
A. I would say no, Though both of us drank in a vain attempt to escape
our misery, we were not alcoholics.
15. Did the uprising in England against
Spiritualism while you lived there cause you to renounce your ways?
A . Not really.
16. Whatever happened to Katie's husband?
A. He chose to die in loneliness and despair for reasons that can only
be found in his own thoughts.
17. Did you both die natural deaths?
A. More or less. The liquor and the
despair hastened our departure.
18. What do you do now in The Spirit
World?
A. Try to keep what we started on the right Path, and work to expose
those who use it merely as a means to enrich themselves and exploit
others. I do alot of speaking, alot of counselling to the living. I
have no living workers myself, but am often called in by Spirit Guides
to give special counsel.
19. Would you be able to answer more
questions later?
A. If they are asked, I will try, yes.
20. Do you have any messages for our
readers?
A. Yes. No matter how desperate your situation, no matter how hard your
life, don't let others persuade you to betray what you know is true,
merely for the sake of physical affection or material comfort. For
these things are fleeting and of very little value. Hold on
to
the good in your heart. Do not let others drive it out for the sake of
ignorance or greed. Though it is hard to stand fast, to keep
the
truth, do not forsake it. In doing so, you forsake your eternal spirit,
and in the end the price is far too high. The hardship
