THE FRIGHT
By ; Joseph Presley

It was dark and murkey on that fateful night, When we all decided it was time for a fright;
We were a group, in our teens you see,
The group was composed of seven plus three;
  We  all agreed that we should meet just before midnight,
On the road, in the curve with the trail that went off to the right;
We had planned for a week and a day in ad vance, Of how and why we should take such a chance;
The woods we would enter, at night it's not wise,
For the things that dwell there could surely take your life;
We were on a search of a story that had been told,
About a creature that had been crossing that road;
Several people had seen it, but only guess at what it was,
And since we were bored, it had become our great cause;
On the day of that terrible night, as the hour grew near,
A few of us met for some courage and cheer;
At a quarter to twelve we were all parked at the curve,
All except one who had lost his nerve;
As I looked into the sky, the moon I did not see,
Only the stars were there winking at me;
It is time to begin, I heard a voice say ,
Then I looked down the trail and began to pray ;
It was deep, dark, and resembled a tomb in the trees,
My mouth went dry and I began trembling at the
knees;
But I buttressed my courage and began to walk tall,
And we entered the trail, one and all ;
We walked at a pace no faster than a snail's crawl,
For the undergrowth around us looked just like a wall;
And the flashlights we had brought with us weren't of much use,
As the darkness around us felt like a noose;
W ith the shotguns we had brought, we were ready to shoot,
That evasive creature known as 'Bigfoot';
For it was he of which we sought,
On that dreadful night we shouldn't have ought;
A hundred yards down that trail we did go, Hearing the noises of things we did not know ;
We came to a clearing and decided that it was right,
That we should stop, build a fire, and have some light;
The only problem around that time that arose, Was who would go get the wood from the sur rounding oak grove;
To build the fire that would drive away the fear and the cold ,
And to help us to retain that feeling that we were still bold;
We all made our excuses not to gather the wood,
And then decided to draw straws to see how we stood;
Then a, ealization suddenly dawned , Where the hell was the s.traws going to come from?;
All of a sudden, our attention was drawn, By a sound that just didn't belong;
It was a noise by which just couldn' t be described,
As it curled your hair and chilled your insides;
It was close enough, it seemed , you could reach out and touch,
But, by the time it stopped , I was hitting 3rd gear in my pick-up truck.

THE SILVER RIING

The silver ring from a planet distant Is bringing words of peace to Earth Telling tales of a distant memory Telling how things will be
And the planet' s death......and birth
Silver ring, forever spinning Weaving daydreams in my mind Bring to Earth a new beginning Encounters of another kind
The silver ring invades my vision Flashing lights, for all to see
Here I stand, sighing, almost dying Tearfully still trying,
Crying: "Wait for me!"
I watch them go, to sail the heavens
·And as they leave, lhear the call
"There are many silver rings to guide you some are lost inside you, only one
will rule them all!"
I watch them leave, my heart leaves with them I cry aloud: "Please wait, for me!"
Can't you tell? Don't you know I'm wrong here I just don't belong here
Please ......come back for me!"
