Chapter 4
Twenty Arrows looked at him curiously, then smiled and nodded.
"Many years ago," he explained, "three companions
and I were accused of reaping two white girls. We were about to
be lynched when Son Of Thunder arrived, William. Him and his team
had just captured the four men that had actually raped the girls,
four Korean American brothers who strongly resembled Native
American brothers. The lynching party did not want to believe
him. We were Apaches. They might as well hang us anyway. Thunder
Walker convinced them otherwise, but took three bullets in the
process before the rest of his unit arrived and subdued the lynch
party. I visited him in the hospital, told him I owed him blood
debt. If I could in any way serve him I would be honored. He said
"Become a marshal." I did so. Served in a couple of
local offices then when an opening came available I joined
Thunder Walker's unit. That was ten years ago. We work well
together, so the service has not separated us."
"Why do you call him Thunder Walker?" Trivette asked.
"Because he is like a thunderstorm wherever he goes. He
simply knocks down everything that gets in his way. He is a
master of Shindo, recognized by The International Order of The
Shaolin as a Supreme Master, a high priest. He is the most
incredible marksman I have ever seen. I have never known him to
miss!
We serve together in The Marine Corps Reserves as well as the
marshals. I was a lieutenant and he was a captain in The Gulf
War. I was there when he won the medal of honor. I was among the
officers that signed the petition." Trivette turned in his
seat, now strongly interested. "Tell me about it!" he
insisted. "Not now," Twenty Arrows answered.
"Look! Isn't that the one we're seeking?"
Trivette looked to where he was pointing. "If it isn't it's
his twin brother!" he answered.
Twenty Arrows started to open the door but Trivette stopped him.
"We've got to have back up!" he insisted, "The two
of us can't go in that bar and bring out a white man. We'd have
to kill everybody in there!"
He picked up the radio and called the steak out at the other bar.
Twelve minutes later they pulled in behid them and got out.
"This is better!" Trivette snapped, getting out of the
truck. "Four of us will make things a lot easier."
With the other two rangers following they entered the bar. All
eyes turned towards them as they made their way across it.
Trivette grabbed one of the men playing pool and slammed him down
on the table, pinning his arm. "Texas Rangers!" he
announced. "Harold Fife, you're under arrest!" He
quickly gave him his rights as he handcuffed him then hauled him
to his feet.
"Hey!" the man complained, "I haven't done
anything!"
Trivette pulled a pistol from his belt. "Convicted felon
with THIS?" he snapped. "That'll be enough to put you
away for five years. And I understand the feds have much more
they want to talk to you about. LET'S GO!"
As they made for the door eight husky bikers blocked it.
"Hey!" one of them growled. "You boys aren't
coming in here and taking a friend of OURS without reason!"
Ranger Cooke stepped forward. "This man is under
arrest!" she snapped. "No interference will be
tolerated. Move aside!"
The burly biker turned towards her. "You gonna make me,
sweetie?" he asked.
The ranger punched him in the stomach. As he gasped for breath
she kneed him between the legs then punched him in the side of
the head sending him to the floor.
"Anybody else?" she snapped. The rest of the bikers
backed off, clearing the way to the door. As they put the
prisoners in the back up car, some of the bikers rolled away on
their bikes. Twenty Arrows smiled at his companion. "Damned
good back up!" he muttered. "Take him in. Marshal
Walker will want to talk to him. I'm going to check with some f
my associates in town to see if any Indian artifacts have come up
among the missing."
"I'll stick with you!" Trivette insisted. "If you
don't mind. "
Twenty Arrows shook his head. They got back in Trivette's truck
and took off. They had barely got rolling when Trivette reminded
Arrows that he was going to tell him how Marshall Walker had won
the medal of honor.
"Well, it's quite a ride where we're going," Arrows
agreed. "I don't see why not! It's no secret!"
