Chapter 11

The next day The Chief Of Intelligence asked to see The President, and mentioned the director would come with him. They came in early in the morning, both men setting down their cases and opening them.
"Mr. President," Smith began, "we've got some answers. First of all the weapon they tried to use against us that backfired wasn't chemical, it was biological. The damned bastards modified a common cold virus so that as it lives out its life cycle it produces cyanide. The cyanide builds up in the person's system until it reaches a lethal level, but fortunately the germ is not very strong and mild anti biodicts destroy it. If an infected person is treated quickly the virus is destroyed before it can build up a lethal level. But still its a nasty weapon, Mr. President, and we'll have to keep watch that they don't try to use it in The States."
The President sighed. "Well! That breaks every international agreement!"
The Director spoke up. "It took some effort, Mr. President, but we finally figured out how they got their commando units into The States. They brought them in as diplomatic personnel, then made like they were sending them home, when, in reality, they sent somebody else back in their place. That's how they got their officers in. They were here for months studying their objectives. The rest came in as Chinese. A well known smuggler group came forward, saying they recognized the pictures in the paper. And, they'd brought these guys in two or three months ago. They figured it was better to come forward and let us know than to have us find out some other way and think they were part of it. The information they gave us helped us locate their staging areas. A local gang admits they sold weapons to one of the guys that was identified as a Commander. Another source says they sold them a considerable amount of explosives...more than was used; quite a bit more.. We're trying to figure out what they did with it. We have cleared all American born Koreans. NONE of them have ANYTHING to do with the commandos, WHATSOEVER, EXEPT when they were misled by them, and rendered them assistance they would have rendered ANY of their people. All those detained have been released. Everyone involved in atrocities AGAINST Koreans have been arrested. The White Brotherhood is still screaming to have all Koreans gathered up into camps and threatening action if they're not. But we really don't think they're a concern. They talk a lot, but don't do much. That's about it, Mr. President. The domestic situation seems to be stable."
"I will not sleep well," The President put in, "until we KNOW what they've done with the rest of those explosives. One of their favorite tactics is delayed action bombs. I want no unpleasant surprises. FIND THOSE EXPLOSIVES! You say their officers came in as diplomats? Did their Ambassador know?"
"There was no way he couldn't have had," Smith answered. "He definitely violated his diplomatic priviledges. Quite a few of the international community are still complaining that we have not yet transported the North Korean diplomats home. They say we are violating international law." "Well, I'm going to violate it even more!" The President snapped. "I'm ordering the Ambassador charged. I am revoking his diplomatic immunity. He violated the principles of his office, and caused the deaths of many fine people. He SHALL be held accountable. Inform The Attorney General I am taking this action. Now that everybody else has finally got THEIR diplomats out I can take this action without fear of them being held as hostages. But considering he's old Do's cousin, The Supreme One may do something crazy to retalliate. See that he doesn't take us by surprise, gentlemen."
"Yes, Mr. President!" the men answered.
"That will be all," The President concluded. The two men quickly departed. The President told his secretary to hold all calls and all visits, and went back to studying his map. It was getting cold in Korea. Most people would not consider beginning hostilities THIS time of year, but The President wasn't most people. He wasn't afraiad of winter operations. He knew his troops were equipped for them. His armies could operate year round under almost any conditions. He was going to find out if The North Koreans could. Yes, he was CERTAINLY going to find that out, one way or another!
The President was just about to call it a day when the phone buzzed. He pushed the speaker button and answered "Yes?"
"I"m sorry to disturb you," came his secretary's voice, "but the prosecuter at the Father Damon trial is on the line.
