Chapter 17

The President was asked as usual, to get off the plane in California, and as usual he refused. "Can't we let bygones be bygones Mr. President?" the press secretary asked. "There's a lot of good people in California. Becuase a few ignorant police officers made a mistake you can't punish them forever!"
"Well, until they drop the warrant for my arrest," The President answered, "there's no way I'm setting foot in that accursed state! Their judge still wants to be an ass because I wouldn't show up in his precious court, and wouldn't respect the feelings of the citizens of his state. I can still remember him saying "This man has no respect for the law. He thinks himself a law unto himself. California can sink into the ocean, as far as I'm concerned!" The President snapped.
The press secretary shrugged and headed off. "Sir!" an aide announced, "the troops from Operation Dill Weed are returning to their deployment area! The press is waiting for them. Do you want to watch it, sir?"
"Do I ever!" the President answered.
The television was turned on. It showed a reporter by an air field. "I'm sure you all heard what happened last night," he was saying, "as the bombing attack in North Korea began. 20,000 elite Republic Rangers attacked the facilities where The North Korean's weapons of mass destruction were stored. And they were totally successful! After destroying the four storage facilities they regrouped at the enemy's two major production facilities and destroyed them, then withdrew with only 320 casualties, all of whom were returned.
Here comes the planes! They're landing one after another. What a sight! American, British and Israeli transports coming down, one after another."
A few minutes passed. The planes taxied to a position on the tarmac and their engines shut down. Their ramps were lowered. Dozens of ambulences rushed up. Wounded were carried aboard and then the ambulences rushed away. A band marched out, struck up a tune, and the soldiers began to march off the planes, singing as they did so.

"We are the Rangers!
We are The Rangers!
We do the fightin'
for The Warlock's Army.
Yo ho! Rangers!
Ruff and ready Rangers!
We do the fightin'
for The Warlock's Army.
Oh when there is danger
Call for a Ranger.
We are The Rangers,
Warlock Polley's Rangers.
We'll face any danger
For The Warlock's army.
Yo ho! Ranger!"

The men continued to sing as they marched up to a receiving stand where they formed ranks and came to attention. General Hayes stood there, waiting. "Gentlemen!" he began, "I bring congratulations from The President Of the United States on the performance of your most heroic and successful mission! What our bombers could not do, you have done, and you have made the enemy fearful that no place he has is safe, that no preperation he has made is sufficient. That if we want to get him we WILL get him. Warlock Polley, front and center!"
The young appearing Warlock double timed up the stand, came to attention before The General and saluted in the Spiritist manner. The General smiled, returned the salute in kind.
"Warlock," the General continued, "I present you with this framed letter of commendation from The President to your unit, and this ribbon commemerating this event, to be forever displayed with your unit colors. It bears the date and the words 'So much done for so many by so few.' A few words, Warlock! Then the press have a few questions."
