Chapter 18

When they finally landed in Washington the reporters were indeed waiting. The President was guided to a stand of microphones.
"I've got to get back to The White House," The President insisted. "A few questions, but not too many." He pointed to his favorite female reporter.
"Mr. President," she asked, "we thought there was an agreement that while you were President Of The United States you would not be involved with The Forces Of the Spiritist Republics, yet Spiritist Forces are fighting in this campaign. Are you violating your word, sir?"
The President looked perplexed. "Are not The Spiritist Republics," he asked, "bonefied nations? Aren't they members of The United Nations? If they offer highly skilled and valliant troops to take on a dangerous mission, can I, in good conscience, refuse them? Indeed not! As The President of this great nation it is my DUTY to accept the assistance of ANY nation that offers it in this crisis. I would be in no way acting as a representative of The Spiritist Republics, but as a representative of the American People." He pointed to another reporter. "Mr. President," the man asked. "Some people are saying we've already punished The North Koreans enough. That these devestating air strikes should be sufficient and that we should back off. Why AREN'T we backing off, Mr. President?"
"Do is still in power," The President answered, "his cronies are still in power. As long as they remain in power the situation is not resolved. It is time that North Korea has a rational government, one whose leaders do not have to prove themselves by shootinig down a planeload of women and children. As long as these leaders are in power the struggle will continue."
The President pointed to another female reporter. "Mr. President, the story is going around you took a little joy ride in an F20, bagged 20 MIGS, and they're recommending you for The Distinguished Flying Cross. Any truth to these rumors?"
The President laughed. "I'd be lucky if I got three confirmed kills!" he answered. "I like to sit around and play in simulators. I don't think they want to put me in a real fighter. They're NOT stupid!"
Everyone laughed. Another reporter spoke up. "Mr. President, they say that the main attack will be on the enemy's capitol. You're going right for the jugular! Any truth to that?"
"Sir!" The President answered, "A good Commander does NOT tell the enemy beforehand, what he's going to do. He keeps a few surprises. I intend to surprise Do. One more," The President insisted.
"Mr. President," another reporter asked., "we've received an unconfirmed report that The North Koreans had more atomic bombs than was expected and your troops had to improvise charges to blow them all up."
The President motioned over General Hayes. They whispered for a couple of moments, then The President nodded.
"Well, for once," he answered, "the rumors were right! We were expecting to find eight crude atomic bombs at the facility. However, we found TWENTY there. The rest were of Russian and Chinese manufacture, far more sophisticated than what The North Koreans produced. Our troops DID have to do a little creative demolition. That's all for now, ladies and gentlemen!"
A reporter The President didn't know very well raised his hand and cried out "Please Mr. President! One more! It concerns Dubee Chemical."
The President got a peculiar look on his face and said "All right! What's old Dubee complaining about now?"
"Well, mainly, sir," the reporter continued, "that their private resort has been raided in The Carribean and all their executives including the president of the company are being charged with multiple crimes including child abduction, child enslavement, child prostitution, the producing and distributing of child pornography, unlawful intimate affairs with minors, plus a whole assortment of lesser crimes. They are screaming that it's all a set up, they're being framed. You're taking advantage of the current crisis to attack them while the world is occupied in Korea, because you don't like their products."
The President laughed heartily. "It sounds like," he commented, "these guys have got themselves in some serious trouble, but I assure you, I had nothing to do with it! I think we'll just leave the matter to the local authorities, bless their hearts, and let them deal with these fine gentlemen. They are more than welcome to them! Of course if they need any help in their investigations any help that we can render will be quickly given. I am sure all of you know how I feel about anyone who abuses children. Far better the authorities get to them before I do. Really that must be all, ladies and gentlemen!"
