away from the bottom-most tomb, for no modern
machines were allowed any closer. After the flier had been locked, the
little group walked to the edge of the dropoff and the older man
turned to his son and Morn.
26 "Both of you remember that from here on, you speak to no one," he
warned, "the only talking allowed in the Tombs is to The Dead. If you
become lost in the tunnels find a wall map, but do NOT ask directions.
By tradition you should start with your newest Ancestors and work your
way backwards visiting all you can before the bells sound to leave the
Tombs. They sound in the afternoon for the young, and in the evening
for the old.
27 North, wait here with Morn for me and your mother. You have a key to
the flier. You two may enter, but let no one else in! Make sure you
have no food in your pockets, for it is not allowed in the Tombs. Now,
be off with you! Be at peace!"
28 With his father's blessing North dove from the edge of the cliff,
falling some distance to pick up speed. Then, he soared up toward the
topmost tombs that he had been to so many times with his parents. He
waved farewell to Morn, who flew off in another direction.
29 North entered the tombs and quickly descended to his family's crypt.
He found the caskets of his father's parents. Looking through the clear
sides he admired his grandmother's beauty, which had been so well
preserved in The Haven Way. He stopped only long enough to say
a prayer for each, asking them to give him praise before The Holy
Spirit, that he may do well in the service of The Lord God.
30 He then went on and stopped at the black-sided casket which
contained the body of one of his uncles, who was killed in The
Hashon Wars. North prayed that even though the body had been destroyed
his Soul would be welcomed to The Spirit World. He also noticed a
plaque to another uncle whose body was never found. He prayed for him,
also.
