13 Day after day Morn came to North's home. He spent long hours helping him with his studies. Finally, the heavy math became easier for the young Haven, but still the language troubled him.
14 Finally one day North threw aside his pencil, rose, and paced about the room. "I read the lessons again and again," he complained, "I study and study, but when I need the information, there's nothing there. We'll just have to keep trying, but I feel like I'm wasting your time."
15 "My mother's people have a saying," Morn answered, "'time spent helping a friend is never wasted, only blessed.' Sit down. There's something I want to try. Just sit down, relax. Look into my eyes. " North didn't understand what his friend was up to, but obeyed his instructions.
16 Morn began to talk to him slowly and softly, making his unusual voice even stranger. After a while he began to say something about North's eyelids being heavy, that he was getting tired and needed to rest. North found his eyelids drooping then, suddenly, he found them open again, and staring at Morn. But after looking over Morn's shoulder he saw that over fifteen minutes had passed! "What happened?" he asked, "What did you do?"
17 "It's something my mother taught me," Morn explained with a shrug "Her people use it to relax and rest, and sometimes to solve difficult problems. They call it 'hypnosis'. While you were asleep," he continued, "I asked you why you couldn't understand your language lessons, and found that you didn't know your basics. Your primary Teacher was very poor. While you were in the hypnotic state I repeated the basics to you and instructed you to remember them. It should come easier now."
