light. The boy I treated yesterday will be in a
med com for months. He broke every bone he could break and still be
alive."
79 As North and Gray were leaving, a stretcher team came in with a
covered stretcher. "We got the guy in the ventilator. This is going
to be a bad one to even identify. The only thing we know for sure, is
he was in The Lord's Guard. " The Medic held out a helmet, or, what was
LEFT of it.
80 "Kids flying at night!" snapped the Doctor, "And grown men crossing
flierways. I suppose you couldn't find his I.D. tags, or, his wallet."
81 The Medic shook his head. "Probably landed in the field generators,"
he remarked "there were ashes everywhere."
82 "Come on," moaned the Doctor, "let's see if we can get some
fingerprints. " As they carried the stretcher through a doorway marked
'AUTOPSY' North and Gray could hear the Doctor ask the Medic "There ARE
some HANDS left, I HOPE!"
83 As they became air borne, both boys were laughing. "I know it's not
really funny," Gray managed to say between chuckles. "Those poor guys
having to pick up the pieces, and the poor engineers that will have to
fix the fans!"
84 "Yes!" North agreed, "But can you think of a better way of getting
rid of garbage than dumping it down a chopper?"
85 After a while the laughter died down, and the two boys parted
company. North's mother didn't question his injury, only asked him to
be careful. She doubted he could get another medical waiver from The
Games without losing points, but there was no need to worry. That year
North swept The Games because Morn could not participate.
