deal with them. Being Lord God leaves you no time
for grief. I will spend some time with you later. Do you want someone
else to clean out your apartment, or can you go back yourself?"
15 "I will return myself," insisted Morn. "it is my duty and mother has
left me instructions about the distribution of her belongings. I, too,
have duties, even in my grief."
16 The Lord God departed, and Morn continued receiving calls. In
North's apartment Blue Stone was advising him of Golden One's
assassination. North did not take it well. "Put every one of our people
on alert!" he snapped, "I want to know the guild, and, who hired them.
Is that clear?"
17 Blue Stone was taken back by the sharpness of the order. Rarely did
his leader treat his people in this manner. "Yes, sir!" he replied. "I
guarantee you, we'll find them!"
18 North's manner softened. "I'm sure you will," he told them. "We
didn't make you intelligence officer for nothing."
19 The older man smiled back. This was more like the leader they all
loved. "Signing off, sir," he said, and with North's nod, he broke the
connection.
20 North got up and went out into the kitchen. His mother was out of
the apartment, and their Hashon servants were preparing lunch. How The
Old Hashon had managed to be assigned to his service, North couldn't
understand, but he was glad of it. "You two come into the living room
and sit down," North ordered. The Hashon looked at him in worry. By his
manner they knew something was wrong. "I don't know any other way to
say this," North began, "I know how your people feel about her - Golden
One has been assassinated."
21 The young female covered her face with her hands, and began to
mutter the Prayer for The Dead. The Hashons would not have dared do
this in front of anyone else.
