and, those they had made. "I take full responsibility, Father," he announced , "as far as anyone else is concerned, I did this alone and am totally responsible."
47 The Lord God's anger was not with his son. He swore he would find those that had not done their duty and punish them. "You did well, my son," praised The Lord God, "to avenge your mother with your own hand. Now return to your studies and don't think any more of it. I only wish her
son had not chosen to overload his weapon. I would have preferred a public execution. But there will be others. I will respect your wishes, though. As far as her other son is concerned, their deaths were an accident."
48 He signed off and Morn looked across to his friend. "You know something North?" he remarked, "I hated. For the first time in my life I wanted to destroy. I don't like it, North. A man who hates is a fool. He throws away his reason."
49 "Then I'm afraid I'm an awful fool," North put in, "because there's a lot of people that are going to pay a high price for what they did to my father!"
50 "It's one thing," Morn told him, "to remember a debt, but it is another to hate. I never want to feel like that again! It's not good, and it's not what my mother taught me. She wouldn't approve."
51 North nodded. "There's an awful lot of her in you, Morn, and I don't think anyone could do any better. But we'd better get some sleep. We've got Tests tomorrow, and the Commandant won't accept any excuses."
52 Both men laughed, and headed for their rooms. Four days later three high ranking Guard Officers were publicly executed for failure to carry out their duties. The Guard got much more efficient after that!
