Wars, and those were no damned fun, I can tell
you!"
51 The screen went blank and North sat back in his command chair. The
General had just made a bad mistake that men in the future, smart men,
that is, would learn to avoid....NEVER threaten Northern Star. It only
made him mad, and one thing you never wanted to do was make Northern
Star mad! The other Officers on the command deck could feel the
electricity filling the room.
52 "Communications," asked North, "have you located that Officer?"
53 "Yes, sir," Communications answered. "His name is Bright Moon. He's
the Commander of the planetary cutter Iron Eagle."
54 "Raise him!" ordered North.
55 While Communications worked, everyone else sat in silence. North
called up the recording of his conversation with the General and the
ship's records. He went over every statement very carefully. That
mention of Morn's mother was something he could use.
56 Finally, Communications spoke. "I have the Officer you wished me to
contact, sir."
57 "Main screen," ordered North. In a moment a handsome looking Officer
could be seen sitting in his own command chair. The other command deck
was a little more cramped but looked almost the same.
58 "Bright Moon," began North, "this is Commander Northern Star of the
cruiser Lord's Vengeance. I'd like to speak to you in private. Could we
both retire to our quarters and regain contact in say, ten minutes?"
59 "May I ask what this conversation would be about?" inquired Bright
Moon.
60 "I am having some problems with supply," North continued, "I
understand you, also, had some problems with them, and may be in
possession of some information that would be helpful to me."
61 "One moment, Commander," Bright Moon requested.
