swore an oath that The Lovers Of Men would always
be my enemies, and I would help any that were abused by them, and that
I would destroy them. Now, this night, in this darkness, I swear a new
oath. For I have a new enemy.
101 I will hunt The Purists, the murderers of innocent children that have
not even known their manhood. I will hunt them and destroy them
wherever I find them. For their sickness is far worse than the sickness
of The Lovers Of Men. Their sickness is a sickness beyond reason, beyond
understanding, beyond decency.
102 Theirs is not a sickness of the mind, but a poison in their very
Souls, with which they try to poison others. For that they must be
destroyed. And I swear, THEY WILL BE!"
103 North began to scream, and even far out at the entrance the Guards
heard his horrid cries. One of them started towards the tunnel's mouth,
but the other one held him back, shaking his head. "Hold
your position," he said, "stand
by your orders." The
other man looked hurt,
but returned to his post.
104 North screamed and screamed until his lungs burned and his throat
hurt, and he was exhausted. Finally he fell to his knees and began to
sob. Now that the anger was gone, now that he had burned it out, he
could weep, weep for the loss that he had to bear.
105 Suddenly he felt a warmth come over him, felt something touch his
shoulder in the darkness and heard his son's voice speak to him.
"Father," he whispered, "weep no more. I am all right, so is our
friend. We're here with grandfather and some of Morn's friends. We're
all right. Go home. Put both my mothers in the same bed with you.
Tonight they need your closeness."
106 Suddenly North was alone again, but he heard the voice speak one
last time. "Morn's been attacked too, Father, but he's all right. Do
not worry about him. Go home. "
