17 The Doctors wanted him to stay overnight in
the hospital, but Morn wanted no part of that! "I can lie around at
home," he argued, "just as well as here." Morn didn't want to be
anywhere where he could be sealed off from what was happening.
18 He hurried home to get his Agents’ reports on what had been
happening with North. They told him of the strange flight to the mines,
but of course they knew nothing of what had occurred in the shaft.
North had called in to Guard Headquarters as he flew home, inquiring
about the nature of the attack on Morn.
19 "How did you find out about that?" asked the Communications Officer.
"We've released nothing."
20 "I have my sources," North insisted. "Now give me the details fast!"
21 The Communications Officer did and North was satisfied Morn was o.k.
"Damn them!" he thought. "They killed my son, and now they've tried to
kill my best friend. "Damn them!"
22 When North got home, he told the Guards to stay outside. He picked
up Valley Blossom, and carried her into Sweet Cloud's room. Laying her
on the bed, he laid down between the two of them and almost instantly
their arms were around him, even in their sleep.
23 North himself, was just about to doze off when he felt a pressure on
his feet, and looked down in the dim light from the hall to see his
daughter curling up on the foot of the bed. He said nothing, but let
her stay there. They all needed to be close to one-another that awful
night.
24 It barely seemed like North had gotten to sleep when someone was
tapping him on the shoulder. North rolled over and saw one of his
Guards in the dim light. So as not to awake the sleeping women the
Guard spoke in sign language. "Academy called, sir. They want to know
if they are to cancel your lecture and afternoon
