86 They carried the Engineer back to the main area. The sight there
wasn't pretty. A couple of the crew were in a bad way. There wasn't
anyone without some injury.
87 High River quickly checked everyone over, and began to move the
worst injured back to the scout. One was a woman. As they were carrying
her passed, High River shook his head. North understood the message.
88 He noticed one man apparently uninjured in the corner, but he was
bound hand and foot, and gagged. "What's this?" he asked Half Moon.
89 "He wanted to kill the Hashons," the Engineer answered, "to make the
air last longer. We had to restrain him."
90 North also noticed a repair droid sitting lifeless in the corner.
Half Moon saw where he was looking, and answered his question before it
was asked. "He did what he could," he explained, "until his energy ran
out. We didn't have the power to recharge him."
91 North went over to the bound man and began to untie him. "You're
going to help my men," he snapped, "the first thing you're going to do
is run a power cable to that droid and get him recharged. We need him.
Then, you will do whatever my men tell you. One complaint, one
hesitation and I will personally break your back. Do you understand?"
The man nodded.
92 North took the gag out of his mouth then went back over to Half
Moon, who pulled him down closer. "Before the intercom gave out," he
whispered, "I heard some garbled messages, and in the forward sections
I heard some tapping. There may be others still alive forward, but we
couldn't reach our suits or waste air in the air locks so I didn't say
anything to the others."
