"Hardly!" announced Morn, "I do that little trick for my children all the time. It amuses them!"
"Well, my effort tired me," explained The Peepian. "I exhausted my mind. Do you know why it is so much easier for you than it is for me?"
"I am not sure," admitted Morn. "I am interested in hearing your reasoning."
"We depend," continued The Peepian, "on the power of our mind, alone. We thought the mind was everything, but we were in error. You draw on Forces outside of you, the natural energies of this room, and the Power of those Lords which you worship. We have taken the wrong path, turned down an unnatural road, and the result is that instead of becoming superior we have become inferior.
True, we are better in some ways than any of our brothers and sisters, but you are vastly superior to us. Seeing what your people have accomplished has made us painfully aware of our shortcomings. We wish, therefore, to turn around.
It has been jointly decided by all of us. Therefore, we wish to become members of your Faith. It will be a condition of the treaty that for us to join in it, you must send Speakers and Healers to help us return to a normal way of life. We are aware this will be difficult for the first few generations, but we are sure that it can be accomplished, and MUST be."
"Of course," agreed Morn, "we will be glad to send a couple of Speakers and a couple of Healers to help you!"
"I believe," snapped the Spokesman, "we will need more than a couple. There are three BILLION of us. A few thousand will probably be more appropriate."
Morn had a feeling many young Speakers now in training were going to be in for a sudden surprise! They would have their own Temples long before they thought they would! "I will do all I can," he agreed, "to fulfill your request."
