52 North was led to the Great Hall and sat on a
throne that was above the seats of the others that sat there in two
half circles six deep on each side of the room.
53 When all were gathered, North spoke. "I am extremely flattered," he
began, "with the honor that you have bestowed on me, but I really
cannot be your High Priest. I am a Warrior. My duties are to my people.
I know nothing of how your Temples are run, I know only what I have
read of Lord Change in his Book."
54 "You know enough," answered The High Priest, "and what's done is
done. It cannot be undone. You are High Priest until death. That is The
Law. Only Change can sit aside a
High Priest, and that is what he has done.
55 The message in The Chamber Of Whispers was not from the father of my
fathers, alone, but Lord Change, himself, spoke to me. He told me of
you, and of the one you serve. There are things that he said that I
cannot repeat, even to you, but I will say this much….he declared it
would be better that the one you serve sit upon his throne, but that
one must continue the work towards that Destiny that he has chosen.
56 So it is best that the one that he has sent us sit upon the throne
of Change, and speak the words that I have put in his heart. For he is
my voice ....ALMOST my flesh. Spirits of a kindred heart that well
understand each other. Because of this, I shed tears of sorrow that I
did not accept The Messenger Of Change, and I have stood aside, that he
might take his proper place.
57 That is all, Lord, that I can say. I am your Servant, in whatever
way you will use me. If it is your will to cast me out, then that, too,
I will accept."
58 North rose. "I need," he announced, "a Regent. One to sit upon this
throne in my absence while I do battle, to run the daily affairs of The
