Chapter Five
Now, The Colonists spread out to the neighboring people and as the
fruit and grain and nuts were at the peak of their season, and the
natives had much surplus that would only rot before they could use it,
they were glad to trade with the colonies.
2 Hunters went out to uninhabited regions bringing back grain, wild
fruit, nuts and game beyond the reach of the natives.
3 For the first time in years everybody had all they wanted to eat, not
merely enough to keep them alive. The Voice declared "From this day
forth, in the passing of this planet's year, when this day comes again,
let us have a celebration of joy for our arrival, and, the ending of
our
hunger. On this day let us have a feast, remembering the time when our
hunger and our thirst was quenched after our long and bitter journey."
4 So it was, and, still is, that from that day forth The Children Of
The Lords celebrated their coming to this world of plenty.
5 Now, the colonies prospered and the people began to spread out. In
ten years the cities had doubled in size. During this time, on one of
the trading expeditions a
Chief, who had become rather fond of North, presented him with one of
his daughters, offering her in trade. The girl was barely a child, but
the natives mated very young. Considering the shortness of their life
span North could understand this. North tried to refuse but when the
Chief seemed to become angry, North made a bargain, wanting to keep
good relations with these people.
6 Coming back to The Voice with the girl in tow, North asked him what
he should do with her. The Voice looked at the young woman, then at
North. "If you don't know the answer to that," The Voice laughed, "I
question your ability to lead my fighting forces! Take her as
