14 With North's taking of a native woman as mate
others began to do likewise. This appalled The Goddens, and The Lord
God complained. "Shall we corrupt holy blood with the daughters of this
world, of this worthless dust? I ask you, forbid your people to do
this, for it is a shame, and you disgrace the blood of your Haven
Fathers."
15 "My people," answered The Voice, "take as mates who they please. Put
not your ideas of purity on them. There are no Purists in our cities.
Your forces long ago massacred the last members of that belief."
16 The Lord God was angry but said nothing more. He was more worried
about the increase of The Republic's numbers than the purity of their
race. As far as he was concerned , they were all impure and inferior
anyway.
17 "We must find a way," he told his Aide, "to increase our numbers
without marrying natives. These natives are of little good anyway. They
protect their own territories but do not have much aggression. They are
easily contented and do not seek the territory of others. They do not
have our aggression, our need to expand , to take, to spread our will
