25 Gray Boar shook his head. "Do not be ridiculous!" he sighed. "This
was not The Lords! Think! Use your reason! Stowaways- somebody snuck on
the barge and steered it down river. It wouldn't be the first time some
poor, weary traveler took a free ride, only this time, he earned his
passage and saved my son's life!"
26 "That leaves me only one question to ask," argued the Speaker. "Boy
while these people were with you, were you hungry? Did they give you
anything to eat?"
27 "Nothing to eat," the little boy answered, "but I wasn't hungry.
Having too much fun to be hungry!"
28 The Old Speaker made The Sign of The Star and walked away, saying as
he went, "'When You are with me, I shall not hunger, nor, shall I
thirst. For The Glory of Your Presence refreshes both my body and my
Soul."
29 "Superstition!" insisted Gray Boar, "Superstition! The boy was
simply so excited he didn't notice his hunger!"
30 "Well, he was sure excited riding up river," argued the Captain,
"and he ate anything that wasn't fastened down. I swear, he's
five-tenths stomach!" Everyone in the crowd roared with laughter.
31 "You will not convince me," continued Gray Boar, "that this was some
Work of The Lords. Though I will bless Them forever for my son's good
fortune, I will not credit Them with something that was not Their due.
That would be against Their Teachings. Now let us forget this thing,
and go back to our daily lives."
32 But no one could forget. As soon as the story was known every paper
