Chapter Three
So
it was Gray Boar went to the University. As soon as he got there, the
Professors realized that here was someone of a special character,
someone who had an exceptional ability to learn, and they were
determined to teach him all they could.
2 And Gray Boar did not
disappoint them. His desire for knowledge was intense, and he worked
tirelessly, to obtain it. Night and day he studied. Even while he was
in the University, he began to make important discoveries, the first of
which was a way of making a new rifle, which he called a 'semi
machine.' It could fire round after round as fast as the operator could
pull the trigger.
3 The minute the Army saw it demonstrated, they
financed its production. He also submitted plans for an entire new type
of desert outpost, a design that was soon being built in several
locations.
4 He also completely redesigned the tread mechanism for
tanks, introducing a design superior to anything that had been made
before.
5 It seemed that every problem he attacked he solved in a
very short time, much to the dismay of The Children of Spirit's
enemies, The Oneness. Already they were coming to despise this young
Worker of Spirit.
6 When it came time for Gray Boar to leave the
University, everyone thought that he would be deferred from military
service because of his already growing importance to the Army, but he
refused any deferment. "I will do my duty" he insisted, "like anyone
else. I will not be privileged."
7 No one even considered that he
was seeking privilege, but they honored his request, and made him
Commander of a small desert outpost.
8 Now, The Oneness, quick to seize on an opportunity, decided to put an
end to this young Worker of
