a waiting father. Finally the famous Surgeon came out. "It was a textbook case," he explained, "ripped tubes that had healed together. The unfertilized eggs could not get down into the carrying chamber.
We cut out the damaged areas and sewed the tubes back together There was also a rip in the carrying chamber, that if we had not repaired would have caused her trouble when she bore. But I think when she burns again there will be no pain, and she should be able to conceive."
That following season Gray Boar was working on a project for some construction people. Just a few years before, mortar had been developed, and they were beginning to build buildings of baked brick by sticking them together with the mortar, but something was going wrong.
Some of the buildings came apart, others stood up fine, though they were all made the exact same way! Gray Boar began to perform experiments. He tried everything he could think of, but he couldn't seem to find the problem. Some mortar held up well, but some made the exact same way, crumbled!
"It just doesn't make sense!" he told Swift Dog. "There's got to be a reason, and its something very simple, but we just don't see it!"
As they were working one day, Mountain Glory walked in the laboratory all smiles, walked up to Gray Boar, and tapped him on the shoulder. When he turned around and looked at her, she kissed him and announced, "The breech is loaded."
Gray Boar looked at her for a moment. "The breech is loaded?" he repeated. Then, he remembered the old military slang. When a fighting person's mate was pregnant, her breech was loaded! He grabbed her and hugged her. "You're sure?" he stammered, "You're positive?"
