99 I have an idea ...let us have a contest! A
famous composer of music will be selected from each Land, and come here
to Northern. Then, anyone that wishes to, may write a song, and submit
it to the contest. These composers and I will judge the entries and
decide which one is best.
100 Each Land will donate prizes to the winner. It would be something
that would amuse the people for some time!"
101 The Committee liked the idea. The Composers came to Northern. Soon
thousands of entries poured in. Some were very poor, some
were good, some were excellent. Music Publishers made fortunes selling
copies, and record Producers sold thousands of records.
102 But Gray Boar and the Composers couldn't find one song that suited
them. They got down to about twenty-five possibilities, but none of
them were quite what they wanted.
103 Now, one day the children asked Gray Boar if he had selected a song
yet, and half jokingly he announced, "No, we're not doing very well.
Maybe YOU ought to write one."
104 The children asked, "Can we? Can we?"
105 "Anyone can enter the contest," Gray Boar informed them.
106 Now, one of the children was quite good on the piano, and soon they
were gathered almost every afternoon after school, in the common room,
working. Every once and a while Gray Boar heard bits and pieces of the
tune as he passed, and would smile. "They're trying so hard!" he
thought.
107 Then, one day Little Gray Boar, Screaming Boar, Little Mountain
Glory and their friends came into his office. "Father!" announced
Little Gray Boar, "We have finished our song! Will you come into the
common room and hear it?"
