Chapter Nine
Now, when Gray Boar reached his seventy-fifth season, tragedy befell
him. Mountain Glory was experimenting with a new type of engine called
a jet. The tests were going well, but one day as they shut the engine
down, and were going in to examine it, it exploded. One of the blades
from inside struck Mountain Glory in the head, and she joined The Lords
instantly.
2 Gray Boar's heartbreak was obvious. He announced his resignation and
everyone wanted Little Gray Boar to run for First Speaker, but he would
not. Thundering Boar, on the other hand, fresh from victorious raids
into the enemy's territory, using the new helicopters his brother had
invented, ran for the office. Next to his father and brother he was the
most popular man in the land, and was soon First Speaker.
3 Barely had he entered office, than his father fell ill. The very day
Gray Boar was born, seventy-six seasons later, he returned to The
Lords. But the great wonders of his age had not passed. He had left the
seeds for further glory in the three children he had left behind!
4 The legacy of his mate was not forgotten. Soon, they had new planes
that were faster than sound, itself, and a terror to the enemy, but The
Oneness would bring terrible new weapons of their own. But the people
would meet them, as always, with their great courage.
