south. Up until then, they are on their own.
Lords give them strength!"
32 The young man showed how the weapon worked. They would have time to
experiment with it. The Craftsmen of Spirit were improving it, even as
they began to make copies. They found they could make bigger ones, and
mount them on wheels that could be drawn by dogs….something the enemy
hadn't thought of. They called this invention a cannon.
33 This young man had done his people a great service, but Brown Goat
loathed him. A man that would sell out his people for a little land,
and, force a woman to mate with him to save her kinsmen was not to his
liking.
34 He saw his Councilman trying to persuade his daughter to break her
bargain, but she would not. "You should have been courted," insisted
her father, "honorably taken away with joy, not bought at the cost of
your peoples' lives! What kind of a man is he?"
35 For many years this day bothered Brown Goat. Whenever he saw his
Councilman and asked of his daughter's welfare, the man would simply
say, "She
is well," and look unhappy.
36 One day, eight seasons after the young man had entered his Hall, the
Councilman came to Brown Goat. "Lord," he insisted, "my daughter is in
the city visiting. I demand you call her to you. I have heard terrible
rumors about her and this man she has mated.
37 It is said another man lives with them. No servants are allowed to
stay in the house at night, or enter in the morning until the door is
opened. Lord, I have heard every manner of disgusting thing said of
them, and my heart cannot bear the burden.
