We've only got two chances. It doesn't look like they got our out runners. If they're smart they won't try to join us, but go for help!
If we can hold out until help gets back, we'll be o.k., or, we can hold out until dark then under its cover, flee. And, of course there's a possibility they don't want to fight. They may withdraw themselves."
"I won't bet on that!" warned Bay Blossom. "They may not know who you are, but they know who I am, and they'd throw away half their army to get me!"
"Up against the wall!" ordered Thundering Dove, "Shields overlap. I don't see any guns, but they've got bows and arrows."
The enemy hesitated for several minutes, then made up their mind. They formed ranks and came straight in. After several minutes they withdrew, leaving behind several of their dead, but only inflicting a couple of wounds. Their leader shouted Surrender! You cannot withstand our numbers!"
"If you fight THIS poorly" answered Thundering Dove, "we could withstand you for eternity! Hurt the enemy's ego," he whispered to Bay Blossom, "and they'll fight from anger, and not use their wits."
The enemy came in again, and some of them did something very strange. Throwing down their shields they dove under the defender's legs, crawled behind them, and tried to rise and fight. Only a few managed to even gain their feet, but the resulting confusion nearly broke The Children of Spirit's ranks. But they gathered their wits and kept their formation. The enemy's strange maneuver failed. The enemy withdrew again.
"Throw their bodies out in front of us," ordered Thundering Dove, "and ours, too. Make them climb over them to reach us."
