was that they would be discovered on the far end, but to his joy, word
came back that the inn was empty! For some reason the bandits had
deserted it.
69 Finally, Thundering Dove took his place and started up the tunnel.
They had placed torches but they were far apart. He could not believe
the size of the tunnel! Two men could march down it easily, and it was half
their height over their head. The walls were smooth like glass.
70 "How could anyone have made such a thing?" he wondered. And when he
learned later there were side tunnels and rooms he was more amazed.
When he came out in the basement of the inn, he was guided to the
shuttered windows, the streets of the city were empty.
71 "Are the people with the captured enemy uniforms ready?" he asked.
The man with him nodded. "All right," he commanded, "you know your
missions. Three groups go and take the gates. The fourth one will
attack their City Warlock's headquarters. Signal us the moment the
first gate is open. Bows and crossbows only...no guns. Let the ENEMY
give their positions away....we won't. Let's go!"
72 Silently they slipped from the inn, most dressed as the enemy,
others disguised as prisoners. When Thundering Dove heard the signal
from the gate, he stormed the enemy's headquarters. Runners coming in
to report the city was falling, found themselves captured. The city and
its defenders were theirs in but a few short hours.
73 The next day they were on boats being shipped back to Fr. There were
many golden-skinned women in the city as well as men, who were more
