The young man took the cup and drank. The Spirit next to The Dove whispered to him, "There is red-berry juice in the cup. It is The Symbol of The Lords Blood."
The Dove understood and nodded.
The Speaker raised the cup and cried, "Behold! He has drank The Blood of The Lords!"
The congregation answered, saying, "It is so! He has drank The Blood of The Lords!"
Now, The Speaker returned the cup to the tray and lifted a small loaf of fresh-baked bread. He held it up and cried, "Behold! The Flesh of The Lords!"
The congregation answered, saying "Behold! The Flesh of The Lords!"
The Speaker ripped the loaf in two, the congregation moaned, covering their faces.
The Speaker went to the young man. "Behold!" he cried, "The Flesh of The Lords, broken for you. Will you now swear before The Lords and those present if need be your flesh also shall be broken?"
The young man answered, saying, "Before these present, and, The Lords, I so swear, if need be, let my flesh also in Their Service be broken."
"Then take," cried The Speaker, "and eat!"
The young man took a piece of the bread, ate some of it, and handed it back.
The Speaker held it up crying, "Behold! He has eaten The Flesh of The Lords!"
The congregation answered, saying, "Behold, it is so. He has eaten The Flesh of The Lords!"
The Speaker returned the bread to the tray, took a second cup, and went to the young woman. And all that he had done with the young man, he did with her.
When he was done, he returned to the congratation and spoke to the young people, saying, "Arise, man, arise, woman! Let those who bear their robes come forward!"
Two women came from either side of The Temple bearing robes. They put them on the young people.
The Speaker took from the table two Symbols of The Lords and hung them about the necks of the young people.
"Before this day," he announced, "you wore children's Symbols, but now you wear an adult's mark. You have drank the Blood and eaten The Flesh of The Lords. You are one with Them from this day until the end of time. Go forth, man, go forth, woman! May you have peace and prosperity all your days. Your feast of celebration awaits. Depart!"
The relatives of the young people rose and gathered around them. They left The Temple in great joy, to a feast in their honor.
The young man led The Dove from The Temple and back through the fog. "Write this down," he instructed, "as you have seen it. Give it to your daughter and have her present it to the young people. Have her ask them if this is ceremony enough to please them, or should The Lords provide more?"
The Dove smiled. "I am sure," he answered, "the beautiful thing The Lords have given them will please them greatly."
Before he entered the fog, The Dove stopped. "This is the second time," he inquired, "you have guided me. You seem to me quite familiar! Are you a relative? Someone I know?"
"Not yet, Lord," the young man answered. "You have never met me, or do you know me, but you will. Now, depart, Lord. You can stay no longer. The time of your visit is at an end." And The Dove awoke in his bed.
Yellow Blossom was still sleeping, so he rose, went to his desk, and wrote. He was almost finished, when he felt her standing over him, and looked up. "It is beautiful!" she praised. "Finish it!"
The Dove did so, dusted the parchment, and rolled it.
"I can't wait," said his mate. "Let us take it to her now! I want to see her face when she reads it!"
So together they went to their daughter's room, awakened her, gave her the parchment, and sat on her bed as she read it.
"Oh, father!" she wept, "It is beautiful! Surely they will love it! It is The Lords, it could be no one elses! It belongs to us. It is our happiness and our joy!"
She did something she had not done in a long time. She hugged her father and kissed him on the cheek, as she had done when she was a little girl.
That day she called the young people's committee and gave them copies of the scroll. They were more than pleased! Each returned to their city and many, young and old alike, had the ceremony performed.
From that day forth any that entered The Church took The Bread and The Wine.
Later, persons becoming Speakers took The Bread and The Wine a second time, to show that they were dedicated even more, to The Lords. For with The Bread and The Wine they took The Vow of Service, seperated themselves from their clans, and devoted themselves solely to The Lords Service.
Now, for The Land of Spirit, all seemed to be going well, but night after night as The Dove sat on his balcony, he felt a strange foreboding from the west. Even on sunny days the sky, in that direction, looked dark to him. A strange uneasiness filled him. Trouble was coming from that direction, but what it was, he did not know.
