One day Frns marched into camp, and Bold Dove went out to meet them.
"Lord," their leader, Lame Hawk, announced, "when our neighbors left their villages to do battle, our sons were bitter because their friends were going off to battle and they were forbidden to bear arms.
So we went to your father and said to him 'Lord, why do you treat us and our sons so unfairly?
After the war with our people you understood our fear of returning to our own land. For being lame we were considered useless and could've been killed and eaten with the first drought.
So you told our King we would not return and made him send our wives and children, before you would return his war leaders who were of noble houses.
Then you allowed us to live in your land, to carry on any business but forbidding us to join the army, or, be officials of your cities.
But now the land is in danger, our neighbors and friends, the husbands of our daughters go to battle and like helpless children we must stay home. When we are still good soldiers, when our sons are good soldiers.
We are ready to travel, Lord, we have our arms. Do not forbid us to use them. Lift your ban against us bearing arms, and let us fight with our true people.'
And your father's heart was oepened by our plea, and he said, 'By coming to me have you honored my house and my land. That you have grown to love my people fills me with pride. Take your weapons. The ban against you bearing arms is lifted! You do us honor by your presence among us. May The Lords be with you!"
So it is sir, we are here. Let us join those of our cities and villages. Let us fight side by side with our neighbors and friends."
"By The Lords," cried Bold Dove, "as you have said, so must it be! Go! Join your friends! Let each man choose his place!"
With this a cry of joy rose from the army, and they rushed forward to greet their neighbors. 43 "When you have such as these fighting with us," commented Bold Dove, "what power can overcome us?"
