44 There was a mournful cry behind
them, and they turned to see the Adviser's two young mates standing
behind them.
"Lord ," they wept, "we are widows, but glad we are to see him dead!"
45 "You speak ill of your mate when he lies just dead? Can he be that
evil?"
46 "Lord, he bought my sister and I for our innocence and our youth,
our parents sold us for a few gold coins. We do not blame them, they
were poor and he seduced their hearts. He showed us no pity, Lord,
anytime that he touched us. But many nights we cried because he hurt
us. The things he
made us do with her, and, with each other are not to be spoken of. Do
not ask us, Lord to feel sorry, or, to mourn, when
there is nothing in our hearts but joy!"
47 "How is it," asked The First Speaker, "that you were not in the
tent?"
48 "We both awoke suddenly," the younger woman explained, "and had to
relieve ourselves. So we were out in the public tent. We stopped to
discuss some matters then
heard the cries of 'Assassin,' and returned to find this."
49 "Their foul magic," explained Gray Goat, "they wanted no witnesses. "
50 Singing Hawk suddenly entered the tent, for he had been far away,
and only now answered the call. Gray Goat took the oldest
girl's hand and put it in his. "Woman," he announced, "your mate, a man
of honor, in whose arms
you will never weep! " He turned to the younger woman. "You," he
continued, "will stay with me, until you are ready to choose a mate of
your heart. "
51 "Already," she announced, "I have chosen. Why should I seek any
further than here? Surely you know The Lords have put me in YOUR care,
that my heart is yours! "
