Of the lake. It is called Zo, and they are called
Zoans.'
57 So I went to this city, and went down amongst these people. To my
surprise I found their skin was not the silver color of ours, but shone
like the finest gold. Our women were fair, but these women walked with
a grace and beauty that was indescribable.
52 I lingered for some time, looking at their beautiful dresses, but I
was surprised to see that not only the women were adorned with brightly
colored clothes and many jewels, but the men, also, wore such womanly
things.
53 'In different lands,' I said to the Spirit, 'are different dress,
indeed! What is to one man vulgar, is to another handsome!"
54 The Spirit laughed. I felt a sudden tug at my back, and asked the
Spirit what was wrong. 'You have been a long time out of your body,' he
explained. 'It calls you back. Go on home, now, and tell all men what
you have seen, that they may be prepared for these people's coming!'
55 With that, the Spirit disappeared. I found myself alone, and I was
frightened. 'Lord!' I cried, 'Lord! Don't leave me! I do not know how
to find my way home. In what direction does my body lie?'
56 There was the sound of childlike laughter all around me, and the
Spirit answered, 'Turn around and look to your waist. Follow the Silver
Cord and it will lead you back to your body.'
57 Following these strange instructions I found, indeed, that from
about my waist emerged a Silver thread, thinner than a hair. I felt a
sudden tug from it, as again my body summoned me. Through the sky I
soared, following the cord, found my body, and found that the cord
emerged from it.
58 I simply sat down in myself, and woke up.
