Chapter Three
Wandering Fox's people headed north with the slaves. They would be in
Lot and well into the desert before news of what happened next could
reach that city. Three days after their departure The Hawk's agents
went to three large houses of pleasure in the city.
2 "My master leaves tomorrow," they explained, "and plans a great
celebration with many of his friends, in the city. He wants to hire
your entire house exclusively for the evening. He will provide his
own guards. Yours may stay in their quarters. They will be given a gift
of wine and cakes."
3 "Your master is welcome in our house," answered the owners, "but we
have many regular customers. They will be angry if they are turned
away. He cannot have my whole house."
4 "Even if he pays you double," offered the servants, "double for every
woman in the house?"
5 "Well," answered the men, "that is a different story! For double I
will consider, yes, indeed! Tell your master all will be arranged; the
finest food, the finest wine, what is ever your pleasure."
6 "We will be bringing some of our own women, too," explained the
servants.
7 "Now, strange women are never permitted in my house," objected the
masters, "but seeing your master is being so generous, I will make an
exception this one time."
8 When the three servants reported back to The Hawk and told the same
exact stories, everyone was amused. "I think they will find," announced
The Hawk, "my generosity will be a little bit more than they
bargained for!"
9 They arrived at the houses of pleasure just before dark. The Hawk led
