44 "The Hawk?" the War Leader gasped, "The one who was in Fr?"
45 "The same!" The Hawk told him. The man quickly undid his weapon, and
let it fall to the ground.
46 "Quickly," ordered The Hawk, "Get those tents down, and let us get
them to our hiding place. Our ladies will sleep in comfort tonight! It
may be their last opportunity for some time."
47 "It may be their last opportunity at all!" explained the War Leader.
"Two-thirds of the army is out looking for you. Every way north is
sealed off. Didn't you know the owner of one of those houses of
pleasure was The King's nephew, and somebody bashed his brains out with
a table leg? You have shed royal blood. There will be no prisoners when
you're caught. They'll cut you down and leave what's left to be a good
meal for whatever comes along."
48 "Then we'd better not be caught, had we?" agreed The Hawk.
49 Within an hour they were back in their hiding place. The slaves were
unchained, and The Frns chained. The Hawk ordered a big meal made up
for everyone. They wouldn't be able to carry all the supplies the
caravan had, so they might as well make good use of it!
50 When The Children of Spirit started to cook, the freed slaves pushed
them away. "You took off the chains," they demanded, "we'll do the
cooking!"
51 One man seemed to be their leader, and The Hawk called him over.
"What's your name?" he asked.
52 "Shining Serpent," the man told him. "War Leader out of Tir."
53 "Why are you here?" asked The Hawk.
54 "I caught my superior with his hand in The King's gold.
Unfortunately, when I reported it, he twisted things around and made it
appear I was the thief. So it was, my estate was seized, and I was sold
