111 "Not a chance!" muttered The King, "Not a
chance!" He turned and walked off with his daughter.
Just to be sure The Hawk waited for Shining Serpent. When he returned
he looked a mess. There were bandages on his leg, his arm, and his hand.
112 "The King just gave me his daughter," explained The Hawk. "You've
got to teach her my language. I'll give you one of our women to teach
her our customs. How's the other guy look?"
113 "There's a nasty hole through his chest," answered Shining Serpent,
"neat and clean! That stroke you taught me really works! The thing is,
to get in and use it! The King's daughter, huh? Is it true your people
can have more than one wife?"
114 "Three," answered The Hawk.
115 "Well, I just laid claim to a widow," explained Shining Serpent,
"and, one of your ladies back home kind of laid claims on me! I hope
things go well!"
116 The Hawk laughed. "I have a feeling," he said, "they'll work out."
117 The next two days were hectic. The Hawk had already given away to
his companions two-thirds of the gifts he had been given, but as they
prepared to go, more presents came. When word got out of The King's
gift, over one-hundred young women showed up at the Palace!
The Hawk never saw any of them, Mountain Glory made sure of that! But
the cattle, goats, sheep, oxen, he saw!
118 "I need an army to get this stuff home!" The Hawk told The King.
119 The King roared with laughter. "You've got it!" he promised,
"You've got it! I'll send a column with you until you can hire help
from your own people."
120 So The Hawk marched home for the third time, and he was amazed how
fast Mountain Glory learned his language! She was conversing with him
quite well in only a couple of weeks. By the time they reached home
